
Commonwealth of Learning Call for Proposals Gender Mainstreaming in Open and Distance Learning
WHAT: The Commonwealth of Learning Call for Proposals: Gender Mainstreaming in ODL is an open- sourcing across the Commonwealth for initiatives to support innovative work to address gender inequalities in and through ODL. Contracts of up to CAD $15,000 may be awarded to advance gender equality in ODL
WHO: From Commonwealth Member States: government departments of education, universities and technical colleges and their representatives, academic researchers and faculty, gender, diversity offices, teacher institutions, teacher training institutions, non-government organizations, and others looking to innovate for gender equality in ODL and find solutions that can be scaled-up
WHEN: The deadline for submissions is November 22nd, 2021. Up to fifteen recipients will be considered from a wide range of Commonwealth Member States. Activities must be completed and contribution spent by May 31 st , 2022.
HOW: The attached form provides the information that will be evaluated by a team of reviewers who will shortlist proposals and vote together on finalists.
The Commonwealth of Learning Call for Proposals on Gender in ODL can cover a range of activities (developing new or amending existing policies; research, courses, workshops, faculty training, development of materials; developing and delivering an open course, etc.) in the following areas:
Networks/Community of Practice
- Building and hosting a network of experts on gender equality and feminist perspectives in ODL
- Policy dialogues on pressing gender issues (e.g. within COVID-19 ODL education responses)
Research
- Research, training, awareness raising on the gender dimensions of Open and Distance Learning
- Research and documentation of gendered experiences in post-pandemic online learning settings
Policies, skills, awareness: Making cyberspace a safe learning environment for women and girls
- Strengthening schools, teachers and parental awareness of online safety for girls
- Building teachers’ skills in preventing and addressing online safety from a gender perspective
- Strengthening on-campus (and Open University) gender-based violence policies to address
technology facilitated violence
Gender mainstreaming capacity in higher education and or skills training institutions
- Building institutional capacity of higher education to integrate gender equality in open and
distance learning, including policies, research, resources, faculty awareness and skills
Gender equality / feminist pedagogy in ODL/OER/TEL (curriculum/approaches/content)
- Developing open education resources which are gender-responsive
- Building capacity for gender-responsive curriculum development
- Building capacity for feminist pedagogy in open and distance and online education
Gender equality innovations in skills for work, through ODL
- Innovations in closing gender gaps in skills training and curriculum
Distributed Open Courses for COL’s learning platforms
- A MOOC or a Distributed Open Collaborative Course (DOCC) on how to mainstream gender
equality into ODL; or how to make technology enabled learning gender-responsive and inclusive
Gender equality in environmental education: Identifying and or piloting good practices
