“President and chief executive officer of the commonwealth of learning, Professor Asha Kanwar Thursday visited The Gambia College in Brikama where she conducted online digital learning lectures. She was welcomed to the College by the principal.

Professor Kanwar said the commonwealth of learning was established in 1987, when heads of Commonwealth nations met in Canada with target to provide quality education leading to effective learning outcomes, skills for employment and education and to create qualified teachers.

She also stated that the percentage of qualified teachers in Gambian Lower Basic schools has increased to 87.7% in 2017. “The leading nations in student achievement are the states that have the most qualified teachers. New evidence shows that the proportions of certified teachers and profession development have a weak impact on student performance. However, in Songhai, teachers will not be promoted to the next level of salary unless they give evidence of collaboration.”

Gambia College principal Abubacarr Jallow expressed appreciation to Professor Kanwar for the visit and hailed her for the presentation. He assured her that The Gambia College doors will be always open to such lectures.” http://thepoint.gm/africa/gambia/article/professor-asha-kanwar-delivers-online-lectures-at-gambia-college
